BOLS Dry Orange curacao

  Cocktail (martini) glass
Lemon zest sprayed, rimmed and dropped in
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled glass
15 mls BOLS Dry Orange curacao
38 mls Southern Comfort
15 mls Freshly squeezed lemon juice
15 mls Freshly squeezed lime juice
David Embury's recipe is 2 shots of Southern Comfort and quarter shots each of lime, lemon and curacao. Simon Difford's recipe skips lemon juice, introduces cranberry juice to the drink and serves it on the rocks.
Like the Scarlett O'Hara, this drink is reputed to have been invented by the Southern Comfort company as the first-ever drinks tie-in with a major movie, the movie being of course " Gone with the Wind". It's a very drinkable Southern Comfort sour, sweetened with Dry Orange curacao, which confusingly enough is sweeter than Triple Sec (Dry Orange curacao is closer to what curacaos used to taste like: Triple Sec represents the modern taste for dryness).
